Underground :: Chicago (2007)

Biography (from WithINSight Fall 2007):
Kat O'Connor has been hanging around the Chicago Photography Center since it was the Jane Addams Photography Program. She has always had a tendency to exist on the fringes of life (although she occasionally disguises it well). But she has only recently begun to find her visual "voice" as a documentarian of those twilight places: the joy, the pain, the strength, the beauty. She aims to see and to share that which is overlooked, denied, or hidden in plain sight. While the view from the edge may be different, the journey is largely the same.

Underground :: Chicago is an ongoing project exploring the subcultures which exist in the "underground" or fringes of mainstream society. To see, to share, to occasionally challenge preconceptions, and always to show real people being their truest selves. These pieces were made in the first year of the project.
